letters from the query wars

# of queries read this week: 105
# of partials/manuscripts requested: 0

I could certainly write another letter about all the queries that didn't follow our guidelines this week. There were many that had attachments, or didn't include the first five pages. And there were quite a few that were for categories I don't represent at all (for example: nonfiction, poetry). However, I must admit that those types of letters about the "do's" and "don'ts" start to all sound far too similar after a while. And one suspects that those taking the time to actually read this blog (and other agent blogs) have likely heard them all before. A little too much preaching to the choir, perhaps. (Or are they still useful to some?)

In any case, in the spirit of the upcoming (American) Thanksgiving holiday, I'd like to say instead that I was thankful for those that took the time to look up the submission guidelines and follow them. And I'm thankful to have finally gotten the backlog of queries below 200 before the holiday week.

What are you thankful for this week? Did you make your wordcount goal? Did you get a request for a partial or full manuscript? Did you make a breakthrough in your writing craft? Or was it something else?
