June 3rd, 2004

in memory...

Karla Hocker, beloved wife and mother, left us on May 28, 2004 after a long struggle with cancer.

Karla was born February 25, 1946 in Hahndorf, Germany to Klaus and Kate Strack. After completing her schooling in Germany, she lived and worked three years in England, where she mastered the English language and nurtured her love of literature. She later went on to become a published author of historical fiction including Regency romances and mystery novels. She moved to the U.S. in 1970 and had lived in San Antonio, Texas since 1985.

Karla is survived by her husband of 33 years, Jim Hocker; their son, Nick Hocker of San Antonio; their daughter, Jasmin Hocker Ozuna and son-in-law, René Ozuna of Heidelberg, Germany; and her brother, Hermann Strack of Bielefeld, Germany.

Services will be held in San Antonio at 9:30 a.m., Friday, June 4, at Sunset Funeral Home, followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Karla was a wonderful lady and a lovely writer. I was always amazed by her strength of spirit, and enjoyed my association with her. Her talents will certainly be missed.
